The Great Turning

"Each Time we look out and realize that the world is beautiful, we are participating in The Great Turning."
-Julia- a student of Joanna Macy

I began with the above quote because I believe that THE WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL and it pleases me to know that I am participating in something new and revolutionary just by enjoying the beauty and joy around me . (The Great Turning refers to the steps humans are taking to heal our existence on earth).

I experienced a lot for the first time this week including:… Continue

Time Flies :)

Hi'ya. That's the Scotish greeting here.

The past week flew by just quickly as the three before. I've been spending most of my mornings and afternoons in Cullerne gardens hoeing the fields, weeding out nettles from the fields, tending to the peas, and picking the runner and french beans in the poly tunnel. The Field of Dreams

This week I swam with some friends in the Findhorn River, had many jam sessions (a couple which included a dijareedo) and learned about ecological home building.

Today I woke up, went on a long run, came home to meet with Colleen Gardner to walk to Findhorn Village for a bowl of classic Skink Chowder, hung out on the beach and then made cookies from whatever I could find in the food shed. Then took the cookies to dinner with a friend in Craig's Whisky Barrel house. Great Day, just like everyday… Continue

Compost Queen

Another FANTASTIC week at Findhorn.

Ingredients for Garden Perfection:

I learned that compost (which is the heart and secret of Findhorn's abundant gardens) is simple layers of manure, raw food and straw. The foundation thinly layers each component into a row of rotting compost that is about 3 feet tall. Then it is covered with a gunny-sack type fabric and left to rot for 3-4 months. During this time, it must be turned and mixed about once a month. Then Walla!!! The blackest, oxygen-rich stuf… Continue

"No More Throw Away People."

My Brain is Full. And so is this blog.
I can hear the gears turning in my head and this weekend I am reflecting upon my first week at the Findhorn Park.

This morning I biked along the coast to meet the kids in the Findhorn village for a game of soccer. Afterwards, I arrived home in perfect timing for the Sunday brunch (a veggie stir-fry, peeled potatoes, musli, and chocolate cake with raspberry sauce- holy cow). LIFE IS SO GOOD! Squeezed in a walk to the rocky shore and dunes with Vincent and t… Continue
